About Food Luminary
Food Luminary was created to inspire others to improve their quality of life through cooking real food. I struggled for years with my health, and after seeing doctor after doctor, I finally found the key to healing my brain and my body - and that key turned out to be at the end of my fork! Using my Nutritional Therapy expertise, French culinary school background and minimalist approach, I help others have fun getting healthier by cooking simple, delicious meals that won’t leave your kitchen a mess.
My food journey
Because I loved food, I decided to go to culinary school. But after graduating, I actually found myself cooking less than before because everything I learned to cook was so time-consuming, and required a lot of equipment and cleanup.
Several head injuries, along with increasing food sensitivities led me to cook more and more at home and simplify the meals I was creating. And I learned that simple doesn’t have to mean bland. In fact, the simplest of ingredients can be the most delicious.
Although I am a nutritional therapy practitioner (NTP) and a healing foods culinary instructor, I spent much of my life as a bonafide junk-food junkie. In fact, my best friend from grade school left me a classic voicemail the day she learned I was going into nutrition, wanting to know the nutritional value of Hostess Ding Dongs and a Coke, since that is what I would eat almost daily - for lunch! It eventually caught up to me as my physical, mental and emotional health suffered. I found I could barely keep my eyes open in the afternoon. I suffered from depression, anxiety, hormonal imbalances, brain fog, acne, sleep issues and a series of head injuries due to toxic overload from all the chemicals I was ingesting. But even with all of my health issues, I actually almost didn’t go into nutritional therapy because I didn’t want to deprive myself of any food whatsoever, as I loved all kinds of food. To my surprise and delight, I discovered that what is authentically nutritious is actually what our ancestors used to eat, not a diet of deprivation, no salt and low or new-fangled fat. It’s actually about choosing real fat and real salt (you can learn more about that in my course). The foods I started making that were the most nutrient-rich were actually even more delicious than what I was making in a French culinary school! This was all because I was using the right oils to cook with, preparing foods the most nutritious way, and with real ingredients.
I combine my certificates from the Nutritional Therapy Association and Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, along with my passion for minimalism to show people that cooking can be simple, delicious, and literally life-saving (or at least quality-of-life-saving). I love to show people how they can whip up a meal that will wow others, and leave everyone feeling nourished rather than bloated. I am on a mission to help people get their light and life back by enjoying real, simple and mouth-watering foods, and by getting toxins out of their environment.
